Class of 2024 with seven colored lines with each representing the colors of each high school.

Hey, Senior! Here are five things you should be doing now to get ready for your post graduation plans.

  1. Continue to complete applications for colleges, universities, and trade schools. If you’re interested in going into the military, make an appointment to talk to your counselor about scheduling the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam.

Pro Tip: Create an account through ApplyTexas to apply for admission to any Texas public university, as well as to participating community and private colleges.

  2. Keep applying for scholarships. Visit your school counselor website for a list of scholarships. Ask your counselor about strategies for applying.

  3. Attend a college fair. Counseling services is hosting two college fairs.

    - Central Texas College Fair, Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Round Rock High School. Visit with admission representatives from 130 colleges, universities, and trade schools from around the country and branches of the U.S. armed forces.  Registration requested.
Add the Central Texas College Fair to your calendar

    - HBCU College Fair, Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. at McNeil High School. Meet admission representatives from local and national historically black colleges and universities. Registration requested.  Add the HBCU college fair to your calendar

Pro Tip: Think about what kind of college you can see yourself at. Visit with colleges that fit that profile and leave time open to discover some place unexpected.

  4. Create your FAFSA® ID at least three days before the FAFSA® opens in December. Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is a Texas Education Agency graduation requirement.

The FAFSA ID is the username and password you will use to log in to Federal Student Aid websites. Your FAFSA ID is used to confirm your identity when you access your federal financial aid information and electronically sign federal student aid documents.

  5. Check with your counselor to confirm you have everything you need for graduation and for your post grad plans.

Do you want to retake your ACT/SAT?

ACT/SAT scores are optional for many higher education institutions. If you send them, they’ll use them. And the higher your college entrance exams scores the better your chances for earning a scholarship(s).
